Ferdinand's Visit to Denmark in 1904
From Ferdinand Hintze's Journal
1904 Trip to Denmark
Background:
In 1904, Ferdinand traveled to Denmark on a mining prospect. His son, Henry was there on a mission. The following is from Ferdinand's journal.
August 9, 1904. Today was a great day in Denmark for us. Henry and I went to Roskilde [map] and visited Dorm kirken. We had in our company Elder Krantz of the office & Sister Lucinda Peterson of Brigham.
After the visit to the Church we went to Latin skalen and saw my old home where I was born. The place is greatly changed and improved. Mr. Andersen the present Janitor received us very kindly. His wife knows us well. They spoke so well of my folks. At noon we went to a restaurant and took lunch and engage a rig and a photographer to go into the country.
At one P.M. we started for Herslev [map] the birth place of my father. We called at St. Jörgens Bjurget and shook hands with a Mrs. Hansen a distant relative.
From there we went to Bistrop the Asylum and then to Valken the new
sanitarium and finally arrived at Herslev. Here we found the old homestead
the same as
always. The old home where father is born is more than 100 year old.
The people seemed so glad to see us.
Many spoke of my father and were so pleased to meet us. we got a good photo of the old homestead.
Our visit made a good impression on the people and I feel I have done them some good. I explained to them how happy and pleased we were.
On our return we went right on to Kjöbenhaven were we attended a Y.M. and Y.L.M.I.A. programme very well rendered considering the talent and preparation.
I am so pleased to be with Henry. He is a good boy and improving fast.
I have great hopes for Henry as a useful man.
Elder Krantz enjoyed his trip and we very much enjoyed his company.
