Personal Background:

Baron Johann Rudolf (alternate spelling of John Rodolph) was born in 1778 in Karlsruhe, Germany.  He married twice: first, to Wilhelmina Müller in Switzerland, but later divorced after three children were born; second, to Magdalena Stadler in Amsterdam on their way to America.  Magdalena died early in life soon after they settled in Ohio  He is buried in Wood County, West Virginia in 1834.

Johann Rudolf and Wilhelmina had 3 children (1 boy, 2 girls), John Rodolph, Wilhelmina, and Elizabeth.  There is no record of any children born to Johann and Magdalena during their brief marriage.

The family name in Switzerland was traditionally spelled Steiger; however, with later French influence, Johann's family used Steiguer, which is the spelling used upon arrival in America.
