OBITUARY:
Funeral services for Birt Varner will be held in the Kingman Baptist Church, Tuesday, March 17. Burial will be made in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Varner passed away in the Donley Hospital March 14 at the age of 88. He was born in Illinois, Jan. 20 1876, the son of David and Adeline Varner, and came with his parents to Kansas in 1878. The family located near Varner. His father donated the property for the railroad right-of-way, the general store and the post office in Varner which was named after the Varner family.
He was a member of the Kingman Baptist Church.
He was married to Isabell Winfrey in 1898. She passed away in 1900. In 1906, he was married to Ella Teeter, who died in 1913. In 1914, he was married to Lottie Silvius who preceded him in death by two months.
Among the survivors are eight children including Earl Varner and Hattie Starkey of Wichita, Elbirt Varner, Josephine Kelley, Owen Silvius, John Silvius, and Margaret Queal, all of California; Ina Jones of Kansas City.
