There are several theories as to his origins in England, but there is no proof for any of them.
- research per Mildred Sussell

BIRTH:
Ancestral File has him born 10 Oct 1602 of Lymington, South Hampton, England and married in
Great Chesterford, Essex, England

Mildred Sussell estimates birth year 1601 from age at death.

BIOGRAPHICAL:
Robert was a tailor by trade. He was in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts by 1635 when he had "a house lot granted him in town, near ye river side". He moved to Salem, Essex, Massachusetts in 1638 and lived there until about 1640 when he removed to Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts when he acquired a large farm and valuable property.
-From research of Mildred Sussell

DEATH:
Age 81 years
Buried Old Town Cemetery, Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts

WILL:
Will dated 7 March 1680/1 and proved 27 November 1682

General Notes (Wife)

NAME:
Name from NEHGR-130, p.304, October 1976. Others (including Ancestral File) have called her Eleanor WILMOT, but the NEHGR article seems to prove that Sherland is correct.
-From Mildred Sussell research

BIRTH:
Ancestral Fuile has her born 1610 in Hunting Field, Suffolk, England

General Notes for Child Elizabeth ADAMS

BIRTH:
Some family histories say she was born about 1640/1 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts, but she had to have been older than that to be the mother of all the children of Edward Phelps, Sr., the oldest of whom was born about 1646.

DEATH:
91 years at death

CHILDREN:
Family histories also name the 2 children who came with them from England as John and Joanna. One family history does not name them, but says they came with two children. I believe Elizabeth has to be the oldest, and probably also came with her parents.

General Notes for Child John ADAMS

BIRTH:
Mildred Sussell found no proof for the date or place, but assumed because he was said to have come from England with his parents.

(Ancestral File gives 1632 as birth year and of Ipswich, Hunting Field, Suffolk, England)

In his father's will he was given 20 pounds and nothing else, so it was supposed that he was unmarried with no issue at the time his father made his will on 7 Mar 1680/1.

POSSIBLE MARRIAGES:
Ancestral File does have two marriages listed:
-Rebecca abt 1667 in Massachusetts
-Sarah Woodman 1667 in Massachusetts

General Notes for Child Joanna ADAMS

BIRTH:
Birth year calculated: She was called age 17 when she gave testimony in court on 25 March 1651.
Ancestral File gives her birth place as Hunting Field, Suffok, England

General Notes for Child Abraham ADAMS

DEATH:
Age 75 years.
He apparently died intestate as on 17 September 1714 his children entered into and made an agreement for the disposition of the property among them. All 10 children signed the agreement.

Buried in Oldtown Cemetery in South Newbury.

BIOGRAPHICAL:
Abraham was Corp. in the militia 1685-1693 and became a Sgt. in 1703

General Notes for Child Mary ADAMS

BIRTH:
Ancestral File lists birth as 1 Sep 1642 at Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts

BIOGRAPHICAL:
They lived in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts

Ancestral File has him married to Hannah Burpee - married 24 Feb 1707
