General Notes (Husband)

DEATH:
Death information from an article by his son, John Rodolph: He was in St. Louis on temporary business. He is buried in Athens, Ohio by the side of his wife Laura Ames. His son says he died in October, but his tombstone says November 6.

General Notes (Wife)

Per son of John Rodolph and Laura Ames:
Melissa was from Nelsonville, Athens County, Ohio. Daughter of the man who was the original proprietor and layer-out of Nelsonville.
She was much younger than John Rodolph. They had three children: one of these died in infancy. Otto, the second one, is residing now at Whatcheer, Iowa, the third child, Leo, was killed at Cameron, Missouri, before attaining majority, by the accidental discharge of a gun.

After the death of her husband, Melissa became pregnant by her nephew, Silas Woodward. The child was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Soon after she married a man by the name of Morris, but he deserted her and she obtained a divorce in the Court of Common Please of Hocking County, Ohio. The court restored her name to De Steiger and the daughter carried that name, however, she was not of the De Steiger line by blood.

General Notes for Child Leo DE STEIGER
